SUBSTRAND: Introduction to the Microsoft Windows Interface

INDICATOR: B6.1.2.1.1. The use of Desktop Background/Changing the Theme, Colour, User Account 

The Desktop background is the first interface a user engages after booting a computer. You can do the following from your desktop background.

·         Start our applications

·         Open files and folders

·         Open the Desktop background menu

·         Access the Recycle Bin

·         Change your desktop settings

HOW TO CHANGE THE DESKTOP BACKGROUND/THEME/COLOUR

·         Right click an empty space from your desktop

·         Select Personalize from your drop-down menu

·         In the new Window, select background/theme/colour

·         Choose your preferred background/theme/colour to finish

CREATING A NEW USER ACCOUNT

Windows User Account helps you to keep our files and settings safe from other people with a Username and Password.

·         Open settings from your start menu

·         Click on Accounts

·         Click on Other Users and select “Add Account”

·         Fill in with your details to finish

THE RECYCLE BIN/TRASH CAN AND ITS USES

The recycle bin is a folder on the desktop where deleted items from the computer system are stored temporarily. The recycle bin can;

·         Stores deleted items temporarily until they are further deleted

·         Files in the recycle bin can be restored to their original location

Take note that files deleted from an external drive are permanently deleted.

To permanently delete any data from your PC;

·         Hold down the shift key on your keyboard and press delete key

·         Right click the file/folder, hold down the shift key and click on delete from the drop-down menu.
